Titus 2 Women (T2W) Gathering

TiTUS 2:1, 3-5, 7-8 MSG  A God-Filled Life

Your job is to speak out on the things that make for solid doctrine… Guide older women into lives of reverence so they end up as neither gossips nor drunks, but models of goodness. By looking at them, the younger women will know how to love their husbands and children, be virtuous and pure, keep a good house, be good wives. We don’t want anyone looking down on God’s Message because of their behavior…But mostly, show them all this by doing it yourself, incorruptible in your teaching, your words solid and sane. Then anyone who is dead set against us, when he finds nothing weird or misguided, might eventually come around.

This morning we had our first T2W gathering, and we all learned a lot about connecting and mentoring.   After enjoying some delicious food, we all watched this short clip from on mentoring:

Mentoring – Propel Women

After the video, we opened up our hearts and shared with each other.  This is what we learned today:

Titus 2 Women (Mentoring) –  What is it??  It’s simply a reminder to be intentional to connect with other women and to let God lead.  You can connect with a few or with many.  We are all designed to connect.

Connect :: Grow :: Respond

We can connect by sharing with each other, encouraging each other, and praying for each other.  We should be intentional to point one another to Christ.  Mentoring is an overflow of His love.  In order to pour out, we each have to be filled.  This isn’t a gas station where you are either the nozzle pouring out or the tank taking in – it is more like a waterfall letting His spirit constantly flow through each of us.

One of the first things we should recognize is that walking alongside a sister in Christ is Holy Ground.  Susie Larson shares this in her book The Uncommon Woman on page 78, “As I have suffered from the pain that has both come at me and come from me, I’ve come to realize something very important:  Christ’s work in all of us is sacred.  Your process, my process, messy as it is sometimes, is holy ground.”

She goes on to say on page 79, “Greater still is that when we stand shoulder to shoulder with our arms linked, the enemy will have a hard time knowing where I end and you begin.  Then, suddenly, my victory becomes your victory.  My fruit becomes your fruit.  And when we stand together, Christ commands a blessing.”

Titus 2 Women #T2W

With mentoring, there is no cookie-cuter, step by step way to do it.  You simply let the Holy Spirit guide you and obey.  Here are just a few personal examples we shared today on very practical ways to reach out and connect with each other:

  1. Ask for prayer.  Share your struggle.  I am really struggling with _________.  Can you please pray with me? Keep in mind when someone is willing to share with you, they just need you to listen and care.  Let them share in confidence and then pray and point them to Christ.  Pray for them to see His perspective.  There is nothing we can offer like the gift of prayer.
  2. Invite them to join you for Bible Study or small group. Help them to plug-in.  Make them feel welcome.  Encourage them.  Ask them questions.  Listen.
  3. Take a walk with a friend.  Let them talk.  Be a good listener.  Let them cry, or laugh.  Sometimes just being there matters, and being heard makes a difference!
  4. Feed someone who is hungry or needs fellowship.  Open up your home and share His love through hospitality.  Be an example of His love for others.
  5. Prayer is key!  Pray for the Lord to lead you.  Pray for Him to guide you and equip you. Pray with others, and be sure to ask others to pray with you.  Be specific and be bold with your prayers.  Pray with confidence:  This is the confidence we have in approaching God: that if we ask anything according to his will, he hears us. (1 John 5:14 NIV)
  6. Trust God as He brings others into your life.  Trust Him to equip you and to fill you with His love and allow His love to overflow to others. Trust Him to give you patience and discernment.

This adventure together is exhilarating!  When you think about it, you are basically sharing your testimony of HIS faithfulness and we overcome by the word of our testimony!  We can overcome and help others by sharing our own journey with the Lord.  When you are vulnerable and willing, God honors it because it connects His love with others and gives them the Hope of Christ!

None of us have it figured out.  None of us have arrived, or have it all together!  But we do have our Lord Jesus Christ and we have each other.  Let’s journey together as sisters in Christ and grow in our relationship with Jesus!

So don’t lose a minute in building on what you’ve been given, complementing your basic faith with good character, spiritual understanding, alert discipline, passionate patience, reverent wonder, warm friendliness, and generous love, each dimension fitting into and developing the others. With these qualities active and growing in your lives, no grass will grow under your feet, no day will pass without its reward as you mature in your experience of our Master Jesus. Without these qualities you can’t see what’s right before you, oblivious that your old sinful life has been wiped off the books.  2 Peter 1:5-8 MSG

“DIG IN” Challenge {Hebrews}

Tonight at our Bible Study:  “Your Beautiful Purpose” by Susie Larson, we watched the video and began discussing Chapter 7 “Follow His Lead” and Chapter 8 “Engage Your Faith”.

We had a great discussion around this sentence on page 139 :  “When we stay close to the heart of God, our heart will beat in rhythm with His and our words will line up more consistently with our hearts.  As we walk in the Lord’s presence, we grow more aware of the divine moments on earth.” – Susie Larson

How can we stay close to the heart of God?

How can we walk in His presence?

::::: DIG IN HIS WORD! :::::

As Pastor Jon discussed this morning – We are family.  We are the body of Christ.  We are living life together.  Let’s dig into the Word together.  Several of us are friends on the Bible App and we do plans and daily readings together.  We can highlight, bookmark, make notes, and share them with each other.  When we are together we can discuss the Word and what we are learning.  This has been a very fruitful way for me to ENGAGE my faith.

If you have a smart phone you can download the app for free, or you can go online to and sign up!  If you are not into gadgets, that is fine too – just get into the Word!!  You can have a friend (or several) in the app or in person to help with encouragement and accountability.  This is not to make you feel any pressure, but instead to make you feel supported and encouraged in your faith!

::::: Here’s the Challenge :::::

14 DAY Challenge:  Let’s ENGAGE our Faith and DIG IN to the WORD TOGETHER.

Daily.  Read at your own pace.

We are digging into HEBREWS!  (13 Chapters – 14 days!)

If you have the Bible App – there is a plan called “Deeper Into Scripture – Hebrews”  and you can sign up here:

I read this from the Message Bible tonight at Bible Study:

Introduction to Hebrews (THE MESSAGE)

…The main and central action is everywhere and always what God has done, is doing, and will do for us.  Jesus is the revelation of that action.  Our main and central task is to live in responsive obedience to God’s action revealed in Jesus.  Our part in the action is the act of faith…

This challenge was God orchestrated…. and what a great way to ENGAGE OUR FAITH by studying Hebrews together!  So until we meet again on July 27th, DIG IN!

::::: Remember to Pray :::::

Susie reminds us on page 154 to pray as we study the Word and to cry out for insight and understanding.  (Proverbs 2:3)  I am so excited to see and hear how God is at work as we engage in His Word together as sisters in Christ.

#BeautifulChallenge Reminders

Our #BeautifulChallenge is essentially reminding ourselves daily who God is, who we are (using scripture references) and giving thanks.  It was inspired (see prior post) at our Bible Study by these two quotes in the book, “Your Beautiful Purpose” by Susie Larson:

Nothing is more beautiful than a strong, humble, God-fearing woman who knows who she is and Whose she is.  (pg. 74)

We are never more fully alive than when we consistently give thanks to One who gives and gives and gives again. (pg 43)

This challenge is a great way to keep our focus on Christ and His love for us personally. Check back here as we will continue to add to the list.  It will be a great reminder on those days when we hear “not enough” or are feeling insecure or jealous etc.  Feel free to take the challenge and comment below, or on twitter, Facebook, or Instagram using the hashtag #beautifulchallenge @cressetwomen.  You never know … your discovery may just help someone else who is hurting today and point them to the Truth!

Be with Jesus.

Sometimes, I find myself completely insecure.  Eat up with insecurity. I think things about myself that are negative. Not good.  Not good enough. I do not have what it takes. I am not smart enough. I am not brave enough.  I am nothing special. I am boring – too ordinary. How can God use me? Why would he use me?

Have you ever felt this way?

You are not alone.  {Me either!}

As we start this new Bible Study, Your Beautiful Purpose by Susie Larson, the challenge is to dream with God.  What is your passion?  What do you think your purpose is?  What causes your eyes to light up with hope and excitement?  What makes your heart smile?   I find as I really start to reflect on these things and step out in faith – I can quickly fill with doubt, insecurity and fear.  My courage dwindles.  My boldness fades.  I’m back to whispering, “What was I thinking???”

On page 21 Susie says, “May you dare to dream with God!  You don’t need to look to other women and long for their lives and callings.  You don’t need to be captivated by your fears. No one and nothing can deter you from your calling – not your obstacles, not the woman you constantly compare yourself to, and not even your past sins and missteps.  Only unbelief can keep you chained to mediocrity and a less-than life.  Will you trust Jesus and begin to move forward in faith?”

Recently I read Acts 4 and these verses about Peter and John were very encouraging to me. I hope they encourage you too as we embark on this journey together to discover our “beautiful purpose”.

Acts 4:13-31

vs. 13 When they saw the courage of Peter and John and realized that they were unschooled, ordinary men, they were astonished and they took note that these men had been with Jesus.

Being smart did not make the difference. Being special did not make the difference.

What made the difference?  Being with Jesus.

~Let’s Be With Jesus~

Sometimes, I worry about what others will think.  I let the opinions of others influence my thoughts and my actions.  Sometimes these worries make me want to hesitate and hold back.

WWP&JD?  (What would Peter & John do?)

vs. 19 But Peter and John replied “which is right in God’s eyes: to listen to you, or to him?  You be the judges!  As for us, we cannot help speaking about what we have seen and heard.”

~Let’s keep our focus on Him~

Sometimes, I let fear and worry consume me.  I need to surrender that fear to Jesus every time. I need to pray for His peace each time my sea of worry waves crash onto shore and pull back those risky dreams that then get pushed down to the deep ocean floor of “not enough”.  I need all of Him to be bold.

WWP&JP?  (What would Peter & John pray?)

vs 29.  “Now, Lord, consider their threats and enable your servants to speak your word with great boldness.  Stretch out your hand to heal and perform signs and wonders through the name of your holy servant Jesus.”

~Let’s pray for strength, courage, and boldness as we dream with Him.~

What happens when we spend time with Jesus?  What happens when we stop worrying about what others will think and we focus on Jesus alone?  What happens when we pray for Him to take our fears and give us boldness?

vs 31. After they prayed, the place where they were meeting was shaken.  And they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and spoke with word of God boldly.

Stay rooted in Him.. just like the pepper plant. Remain in the rich soil of His Word. Remember the Truth. You are HIS!

Stay rooted in Him.. just like the pepper plant. Remain in the rich soil of His Word.
Remember the Truth.
You are HIS!

Lord, I confess without you I am nothing. I need you. You are everything to me, and you tenderly and patiently love all of me.  Help me to remain deeply rooted in you, so that in your strength and in your power I can be used for your glory.   Help me to overcome doubt and fear and to fully surrender everything to you.  {Everything} Help me to be willing to see and be Your Beautiful Purpose, because it’s all about YOU, Jesus.  I am yours.

Jeremiah 29:11 (NIV) “For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.”

Our Beautiful Brunch

Today at 10am, our women came together for our beautiful brunch.

During the welcome, we had door prizes for the youngest woman (born in the 1990’s) and for the oldest woman (born in the 1930’s).  We wanted to emphasize that we are here to minister to women of all ages!  We all have a purpose!  We talked a little about the new Bible Study – Your Beautiful Purpose, by Susie Larson that will be starting on May 25th at 6:30 pm.  I talked about some very exciting opportunities to #connect with us, such as:

Summer Bible Study – Your Beautiful Purpose by Susie Larson

Craft Night at Ronald McDonald House – June 7th at 7pm

Pop In’s – one Wednesday night a month we will pile up in our cars and ‘Pop In’ on people, such as shut-ins and new visitors just to stop by and say Hi, and let them know we care!

Pregnancy Support Services:  We will do a prayer walk in their building plus help to highlight Bibles for them.

Durham Rescue Mission:  Help serve meals, serve dessert

BFF to GFF’s!! :  Once a month bring your BFF to our GFF (Girl’s Fun & Fellowship) where we will scrapbook, sew, pay bills, cut coupons, hang out, play games – Let’s just enjoy each other’s company!

Movie Matinee – Popcorn, Butter, Ice Cold Diet Coke, Oh. My.

UNC Fall Move-ins – we are going to be on campus offering to help students move in and offering them water!  We will invite them to church the next morning, and offer to pick them up by bus.  We will have lunch for them after church!

and Drum Roll……. oops!  We will wait until the end to tell you about this one!

Tope prayed and then said “Bilu!”:  Enjoy the amazing food – it was time to eat!  We had this amazing spread (recipes soon!):

Fresh Fruit, Bruegger’s Bagels with Cream Cheese, Blueberry French Toast casserole, Breakfast (sausage, egg, and cheese) casserole, Baked Blueberry Oatmeal, Spinach Quiche, Mini Cheese Danish, and Coffee, Milk, and Juices.

~our favorite part here~ instead of people spreading out, we got to see people make room at their table to fill it and have more people together, everyone together …. laughing and sharing!  This is what joy sounds like!

After the lovely meal, Matthea presented “Bring Your Jar!”  There were lovely jars all around the room of various sizes all empty.  She read 2 Kings 4:2-6 and she related it to how we are all empty jars needing to be filled by Christ.   We need to let Him fill us and we also need to bring other jars to Him to be filled.  We need to be intentional, and ‘do not get just a few’ – they all matter!  She had great illustrations using the jars and the pitchers to make us relate this passage to our own lives and our own brokenness.  It was beautiful.

Then, it was game time.  Connie had a blast with this!  She had a sheet of questions and everyone had to get a person to sign their page to answer the appropriate question, but they could only sign once!  So for example, someone who gardens, someone who was born the same month as you etc, someone who tweets… etc.  This generated much laughter, and we had 2 winners to fill it out completely – Sarah and Amanda and they both won a prize!  We sang Happy Birthday to Yanzhen and Mary Beth and they picked a prize.  We had 6 prizes left and did drawings for those.  I’m pretty sure almost everyone at Swannie’s table won a prize.  She brings the hugs, and the smiles!

We introduced the Bible Study by watching the first part of the video – “Your Beautiful Purpose” by Susie Larson.  She talked about who this study is for, and we quickly realized it’s for ALL of us.  It is exciting to think about dreaming with God, and saying “Lord, bid me come!”  BUT, even more she reminded us to remember Jesus is our first love. Love Him and know that he deeply loves us.  We are still here, and we matter and He has a purpose for us!   Let’s start dreaming with Him, together.  Find Susie online at and be sure to like her on Facebook to get her awesome daily blessings!

We are so excited about this Bible Study. We ran out of books today and will be ordering more this week, so please email us ( if you are planning to join us and would like a book!   Here is our summer schedule for this study.

IMG_0492 There are 6 sessions and you will read 2 chapters each session.  Keep a notebook or journal and Go Deep with the Lord.  We want you to share, but you will not be called on or required to share anything in class.  This will be a safe place to connect, grow, and respond together.

So, bring your jar (stains, cracks, and chipped – welcome!) and let’s be filled with the love of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ!  Let’s dare to dream together and say Lord, Bid Me Come!!

Oh, and that other announcement??

WE ARE HOSTING THE BETH MOORE SIMULCAST AT CRESSET ON SEPTEMBER 13, 2014!   Mark your calendar and invite your friends!

We are excited to connect, grow, and respond with you!  We are thankful for the opportunity to serve you and journey together.
